Processors from 1992 to 2010

Published at : 18 Dec 2025

Microchips are the invisible backbone of everything digital we use today: mysterious, complex, and fascinating in their own right.

In this video, we start with a memory chip from the 1980s. It stores just 32 kilobytes of data, roughly a few pages of text. Under a microscope, we explore the inside of this EEPROM, where thousands of tiny structures act as individual bits, forming a dense grid of electrical switches.

From there, we move on to processors. Digging through a personal collection of old electronic hardware, we look at CPUs from different eras and design philosophies, spanning roughly 1992 to 2010. Each one is a snapshot of its time, including underdogs, classics, and even a special look at a mid-1980s graphics processor at the end.
