Three Paths To Take: #mindset #motivateyourself #mentalhealth #motivation

Published at : 18 Dec 2025

There are at least three big ways people talk about happiness.

The first says: want less.

The second says: have everything.

The third, which I will call the Path of Purposeful Pursuit, says: use your wants wisely and aim them at meaning, not just comfort.

The first path: wanting less 👇

On this path, you look around at what you already have and decide that much of it is enough.

Instead of dreaming about a bigger house or a flashier car, you notice the home and the vehicle you already have.

You enjoy a simple meal, a quiet evening, a small circle of real friends.

Here, desire itself is seen as a source of pain. If you always want more, you are always one step away from joy.

By softening some wants, you shrink the gap between where you are and where you think you must be before you are allowed to feel content.

This path can bring real peace.

A person who lives this way might stay in a small flat, walk to work, and still feel rich in gratitude because they are awake to what is already here.

The second path: having everything 👇

This path says happiness comes from fulfilling every desire.

If you can buy everything you want, from the newest phone to the private jet, then you will finally rest.

At first this sounds powerful.

If wanting hurts, then having must heal, right?

The problem is that human desire does not stay still.

When you get the car, you start to want the upgrade.

When you get the house, you see a bigger one.

The high from each new thing fades, leaving you chasing the next purchase.

Some people reach huge levels of wealth and still wake up empty, anxious, or bored.

The outside looks perfect but the inside feels flat.

This path tends to give comfort without meaning.

The third path: the Path of Purposeful Pursuit 👇

Our own theory says happiness is not in killing every desire or feeding every desire.

It is in choosing desires that matter and walking toward them on purpose.

On this path, you treat desire as a signal. You ask, "What does this want point to?"

"Is it about showing off, or is it about creating, serving, or growing?"

You pour your effort into goals that fit your values and help something larger than your ego.

Think of someone who wants to be a scientist.

Their joy does not come from pretending they never
wanted that life, or from waking up one day with awards they did not earn.

It comes from the years of study, the long nights, the shared work with other minds, and the moment their discovery actually helps people.

The happiness is in the becoming.

Or picture a person who wants a strong community.

Happiness is not in snapping their fingers and finding a perfect town.

It is in organising events, checking on neighbours, listening, and slowly seeing connection grow.

The desire is not for status.

The desire is to build a place where people feel they belong.

Why this path lasts 👇

In purposeful pursuit, you still enjoy good things when they arrive, but that is not the root of your joy.

The root is knowing your time and energy are being spent on something that fits who you are and helps more than just you.

Setbacks still hurt, but they do not empty a life of worth, because meaning sits beneath the results.

This path also allows healthy desires.

You are allowed to want a better income, a nicer space, or a holiday, as long as those wants sit inside a larger story about what you are building and who you are becoming.

Examples you can see 👇

A teacher who will never be a billionaire but ends most days knowing they helped young minds grow.

A nurse who is often tired but feels a deep sense of rightness in being present with people at their most vulnerable.

A builder who takes pride in doing honest work, house by house, and raises children who see what steady effort looks like.

In all of these lives, there are desires, there are limits, and there is meaning.

That mix is where the deepest happiness tends to live.

A reader's question 👇

When you look at your own life, which path have you been walking most: wanting less, chasing everything, or purposeful pursuit?

Affirmations 👇

I can let go of some wants that only exhaust me.

I can enjoy good things without worshipping them.

I can aim my desires at work and relationships that actually matter.

Happiness is not only about what you have. It is about what you are moving towards and why.

Say it with me: I will treat my desires as signals, not masters.

If this helped you see your own path more clearly, stay close; we are walking the path of purposeful pursuit together. 💛
