https://whc.ca/refer-a-friend?ref=bcb86eab08aa0e89In this video, I take a Windows virtual machine on a long and questionable journey — starting with Windows 7 and attempting to upgrade it step-by-step through Windows 8, 8.1, Windows 10, and finally Windows 11, all inside an Unraid virtual machine.
Along the way, I explore how older versions of Windows behave today, including using Legacy Update to restore Windows Update functionality and make these operating systems usable again in 2025.
The upgrade ultimately fails at Windows 11, and I explain exactly why — including how TPM requirements and VM templates play a critical role when attempting modern Windows upgrades from legacy systems.
This video isn’t a tutorial — it’s a real-world experiment documenting what actually happens when you try to carry an aging Windows install into the modern era.
If you’re into:
legacy Windows versions
virtualization and Unraid
tech experiments and real-world failures
or seeing how far old software can be pushed
…this one’s for you.
▶️ Future videos will dive deeper into legacy operating systems (including Vista), rebuilding old enterprise hardware, and hands-on homelab experiments.
⚠️ This video is for educational and experimental purposes only. Running unsupported operating systems carries security risks and should be done in isolated or lab environments.
