It is with the Beken BK7231T microcontroller. It has 15 GPIOs (6x PWM, 2x UARTs, 1x ADC). It is worth to note that WB3S has the same layout and pins like AI-Thinker ESP12 modules with ESP8266. ESPHome port for WB3S and BK7231T is based on top of the open source LibreTiny PlatformIO development platform. In this video I share my experience with designing an open source hardware WB3S breakout board for breadboard prototyping, building and flashing ESPHome firmware as well as demonstrating it. The breakout board has been designed with KiCad.

* Activate Python3 virtual environment:

python3 -m venv venv
source venv/bin/activate

* Install ESPHome framework:

pip3 install esphome

* Check ESPHome version:

esphome version

pip3 install ltchiptool

* Build the ESPHome firmware:

esphome compile ~/wb3s_demo.yaml

* Flash the ESPHome firmware on WB3S:

ltchiptool flash write -d /dev/ttyACM0 .esphome/build/wb3s-demo/.pioenvs/wb3s-demo/firmware.uf2
