Today in Kochi, Prime Minister Narendra will formally launch INS Vikrant, the country's first indigenous aircraft carrier. The new Naval Ensign (Nishaan), which sheds the colonial past and honours the rich Indian maritime heritage, will also be unveiled at the event by the Prime Minister. The enormous warship, which is equipped with cutting-edge automation features, will significantly improve India's maritime capabilities. Prior to this, the navy officers presented the guard of honour to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "This ship and it's construction marks a major step in our dream for a truly Atmanirbhar Bharat", says Madhu S Nair, Chairman and MD of Cochin Shipyards. "Our vision is to create all naval infrastructure- ships, submarines, aircrafts and unmanned systems- indigenously", says Admiral R Hari Kumar Chief of the Naval Staff.
