Building a long-distance outdoor security system is NOT as simple as running a cable. In this project, we had to deliver power + data over hundreds of meters to PTZ cameras, bullet cameras, and IP speakers — all in a harsh outdoor environment with heat, rain, dust, and EMI. The standard 100m PoE limit would have killed this install… so we used the real solution: a rugged outdoor L2+ managed PoE switch + fiber uplink placed directly in the field. In this video, we break down how fiber completely eliminates distance limits, voltage drop, and interference — and why every large outdoor perimeter security project should use this design.
