Peak Design Outdoor Sling 7L - Versatile, lightweight outdoor/EDC sling with some buckle issues

Published at : 18 Dec 2025

The Peak Design Outdoor Sling 7L is an incredibly versatile and flexible sling that can comfortably carry a huge range of things from the chonky to the tiny across a wide range of use cases both urban and outdoorsey in nature and does so whilst remaining very lightweight and water resistant. It's only real let down is its fairly flawed central strap buckle and suboptimal camera cube experience.

Note: I keep referring to the sling's capacity as 7.5L (incorrect) sling instead of 7L (correct) throughout the video. Please forgive me - I didn't have my coffee that morning and was half-asleep by the time it came time to record this review in the afternoon.

Main Claim To Fame
* A very flexible almost do-anything kind of sling with a large central dump-style compartment, several handy additional sub compartments and an array of smaller internal organization pocketing
* Can capably carry a ton of stuff including some chonkier things in an easy to stow/access fashion, while dealing pretty well with overpacking and providing external lash points.
* Can serve a wide variety of use cases from mixed EDC loads to outdoor use to even (with variable degrees of success and a separate camera cube) camera carry
* Folds fairly flat (or can even be rolled up) and is fairly lightweight for the size making it easy to transport in a secondary bag - it can make for a very good and capable packable "destination use" small bag/sling for one bag travel

Opportunities for Improvement
* One of the biggest flaws of the bag is a very poorly designed buckle on the main strap that comes loose very easily if you're not absolutely careful when trying to cinch the strap shut, resulting in your heavy and expensive camera or other gear hitting the ground - it happened to me three times so I ended up modding it to stay shut
* As usual with Peak Design, the EDC style organization falls short of the promise - there's a bunch of internal pockets but in reality most of them still seem sized for DSLR style batteries from the turn of the century, so good luck fitting most modern EDC in there in a usable fashion.
* Though camera carry is promised via the recently introduced X-Small PD camera cube, the overall experience isn’t as great as many other options on the market and it tends to reduce the amount of usable internal organization
* The sling has relatively little structure and a huge open main compartment which is both one of its strengths but also means it’s awkward for certain kinds of load outs - tablets or devices, delicate things that benefit from more structured/padded compartments etc.
* Not really a great sling if you’re looking to carry devices especially tablets - there’s no really great way to carry them in here.
