On November 27th, 2025, at 9:26 PM, Trooper Cody Brown (ASP Troop B) was patrolling Interstate 57 northbound near the 51-mile marker when he observed two vehicles — a white Chevrolet Silverado and a black Mercedes-Benz 240 Series — both traveling around 100 mph in a 75 zone. He conducted a dual traffic stop, approaching the pickup first and then the Mercedes.
When Trooper Brown made contact with the Mercedes driver, the window was only cracked open and a strong odor of marijuana came from inside the vehicle. After reading Miranda, Trooper Brown returned to his unit to run information on both drivers. The pickup driver was cited and released. When the trooper returned to the Mercedes and instructed the driver to exit for a probable-cause search, the driver refused and fled northbound on I-57.
The fleeing Mercedes rapidly accelerated to approximately 130 mph, making unsafe lane changes and passing other vehicles as the pursuit continued for roughly four miles. Trooper Brown closed distance and executed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention, contacting the Mercedes’ left rear quarter panel and causing it to spin into the guardrail near the 55-mile marker. A Bald Knob PD unit arrived to assist as Trooper Brown performed a felony stop. The driver was taken into custody.
