A dramatic scene in the Hansen Dam area this morning after an LAUSD school bus powered by lithium-ion batteries erupted in flames on Foothill Blvd.
LAFD command staff (Foothill IC) reports the bulk of the fire is knocked down, but LAFD HazMat teams will remain on scene for 3–4 hours to monitor air quality and water runoff due to the battery system.
🚫 No children were on the bus at the time of the fire.
🚑 The driver (age/gender unknown) was transported to a local hospital for minor smoke-inhalation complaints.
LAPD has Foothill Blvd closed in both directions under the 210 freeway. The cause of the fire remains unknown. No injuries to LAFD personnel were reported.
