Introducing the Mars bomber, the world's largest water bomber, based out of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. This massive seaplane, originally a WWII troop carrier, has been converted to fight large fires. The 36-meter-long, 61-meter-wingspan (almost double a Boeing 737) aircraft requires meticulous preparation after winter storage, as well as the rigorous re-certification and practice test flights to ensure readiness for demanding missions.
The Mars bomber is being deployed to Mexico to combat wildfires near the Texas border, in remote mountain regions inaccessible to conventional firefighting equipment. A scout helicopter is also being deployed with its infrared camera to guide the Mars. After 16 consecutive days, 105 hours of flying, and dropping 1.8 million liters of water, the exceptional water bomber completes its mission. Of the seven Mars seaplanes built, this is the only one still flying.
