Discover the Craft Traditions of Ladakh | The Great Himalayan Exploration - Edition 3

Published at : 18 Dec 2025

From Leh to Khardung La, Aranu to Pangong Tso, rider-researchers uncover the living traditions of Ladakh—weaving, basketry, and dance—each rooted in the region’s cultural fabric.

At the Women Empowerment Centre in Leh, 446 women from Looms of Ladakh spin wool into legacy. In Nubra, the fading craft of Tsepo basketry is still practiced, woven with memory.⁣

Alongside the herders, women turn raw pashmina into a vital source of livelihood. And in the highlands, Jabro—a traditional nomadic dance performed by Tibetan-origin herders echoes on in the wind, keeping ancient rhythms alive.

This journey captures the pulse of the Ladakhi people through a celebration of intangible cultural heritage—shaped by hands, folklore and time.
