⚓️ Access Granted: Top of Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge Ship Arrival!

Published at : 17 Dec 2025

Watch the Great Lakes ship American Mariner make a dramatic ship arrival in Duluth, passing under the iconic Aerial Lift Bridge completely loaded with limestone. I ride the bridge to its full 135-foot height above the ship canal, capturing the most breathtaking Duluth ship arrival I’ve ever filmed. This rare behind the scenes experience takes you inside the bridge operations center and then lifts you high into the air while the massive Great Lakes freighter passes directly beneath us.

You will join me as I talk with Duluth Mayor Roger Reinert about the bridge’s history and importance, then meet Dave, the Lift Bridge supervisor, who operates the controls that raise the bridge for ships like the American Mariner, Paul R. Tregurtha, etc. You will see the exact levers and buttons used to lift the bridge, sound the famous air horn, and monitor ship traffic to keep everyone safe.

Once the bridge reaches full height, I walk around and show what it feels like to be up there as the American Mariner approaches completely loaded and riding deep in the water. The horn salute we experience while standing on the bridge at full lift is so close and so powerful you will feel it through your speakers, a once in a lifetime moment that very few people have ever witnessed.
