A devastating fire engulfed an air-conditioned sleeper bus travelling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur on October 14, 2025, killing twenty people and injuring sixteen others, including women and children. Rescue efforts were delayed due to intense heat, and most of the injured sustained burns of up to seventy percent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ex gratia payments for the deceased and injured.
